I know itâs a controversial topic to talk about what the title says, because many people believe that the only thing that comes out of the heart is blood. I used to think that way, but life made me believe otherwise.
I want to set aside the debatable issue of following your heart, your dreams, and things like thatâthose who believe in it are perfectly fine, and those who donât are perfectly fine too. This blog post isnât meant to make you believe; itâs simply to talk about something that Iâm sure isnât just happening to me.
Weâve all heard that little voice that sometimes says things like, âHey, what if we didâŠâ and usually we just ignore it. Itâs not that it sounds like a literal voiceâmaybe it does for some peopleâbut for most of us, it comes in the form of an idea. Iâve heard stories of people whoâve decided to act on those ideas and ended up creating successful companies, groundbreaking works of art, or movements that ultimately transform society.
Steve Jobs spoke about following your intuition and trusting that the dots will connect in the future. His famous Stanford speech is an ode to living with purpose and heart. Oprah Winfrey grew up in extreme poverty and suffered abuse as a child. Despite having a promising career as a reporter, she was fired for being âtoo emotional.â Instead of giving up, she turned that sensitivity into a strength and developed an authentic, compassionate style for her show. In her early days, record labels wanted to mold Shakira, but she insisted on maintaining her Latin essence and her personal lyrics. Her album ÂżDĂłnde estĂĄn los ladrones? marked the beginning of her global recognition without losing her identity.
There are many more examples like the ones I just mentioned, and they come in all forms. They all have one thing in common: they decide to heed those ideas I mentioned earlier with tremendous strength and intensity.
At the beginning, I mentioned that life has led me to believeâthrough a series of recent eventsâwhich has prompted me to investigate. As a result, Iâve concluded that there is a struggle between the rational and the irrational. That isnât the problem; the problem is that we try to approach the irrational from a rational standpoint, and that has led us to all sorts of problems. I want to emphasize that itâs not my intention to make anyone believe anything, but I do want to be very clear that the irrational comes from the heart.
As children, we dreamed of becoming doctors, firefighters, astronauts, police officers, and so on, yet very few managed to make those dreams come true; something happened along the way, and the vast majority of us ended up doing something that has nothing to do with those childhood aspirations. Perhaps you can see my pointâand yes, those who did realize their dreams were indeed the ones who followed that inner voice of their ideas.
There are people who go through life aimlessly, walking among the gray masses who are also lost, wondering what the purpose of their lives is.
Iâve noticed that weâre all born with different talents; we donât all set the same goals, and we donât share the same interests either. Thatâs why Iâm sure those talents are directly connected to your purpose in lifeâitâs just that, because of fears and insecurities, you decide not to follow your purpose, which usually comes in the form of dreams and goals.
What would you do if you really decided to follow your heart? Is it very difficult to fulfill that dream? We face all kinds of barriers and internal dialogues, so itâs easier to put off pursuing your dream than to start working toward it. I know itâs a clichĂ© to say that dreams require hard work and getting up early. From my perspective, the first step is to be kind to yourselfâwe donât all evolve at the same pace, and therefore we donât all achieve success at the same specific age. Itâs important to recognize that no two human beings are alike.
Fears, traumas, and insecurities also differ for each and every person in this world. I think the most important thing is to heal everything weâve likely been carrying since our earliest years. Mental health should be a priority for everyone. Those who are truly committed to moving forward are the ones who seek therapy. We in the younger generations no longer think that psychologists are only for âcrazyâ people.
Fears and insecurities are what tend to hold us back the most, but Iâm sure that once you let go of those brakes, youâll soar like a rocketâthat, and having a firm determination to achieve what you set out to do. The first thing you need is tons of self-love.
How often do you let your true self shine throughâthat part of you youâve recognized on rare occasions but rarely allow to emerge? Recognizing that you have a unique and irreplaceable essence is also key, and this ties directly into what I was saying about self-love.
Self-love is the foundation for an authentic and fulfilling life: when you value yourself, you stop seeking external validation and start making decisions aligned with your truth. Connecting with your true self allows you to live from the heart, recognize what truly makes you come alive, and build a meaningful path. From there, everything flourishes.
We only have one life, one chance to do thingsâfor better or worseâbut itâs better to regret what you did than what you didnât do. We have to make it count and seize this opportunity.
Iâm returning to writing and my dreams, and as part of that, Iâve decided to publish again after more than five years of letting this blog languish in oblivion. And itâs not just writingâitâs also photography and music, which are my great passions⊠An artist dwells within this body, claiming their place in this world. Below, Iâm sharing links to my most important sites: My gallery, my Instagram photography profile, and the link to my most recent projectâmy work as a DJ/producer.
Everyone moves at their own pace in lifeâdonât let the success of others cloud your vision. The best time to start is right now.
